Garissa University College wishes to recruit competent and suitably qualified academic staff for the following positions:

Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, Professor

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. To contribute towards the achievement of the mission and vision of the University College.
  2. To contribute effectively to the creation and circulation of knowledge through effective teaching, research and publishing.
  3. To enrich the intellectual development of students through interaction and academic counseling in your area of specialization.
  4. To participate in institution building and extra-curricula activities of your department and faculty in order to create a rich and vibrant intellectual environment at Garissa University College.

Applicants should have internationally recognized expertise in their field and pursue research at the forefront of their disciplines. They should demonstrate a strong background in their disciplines and the potential to develop an ambitious, world-class program in emerging areas in their specialization with focus on sustainability, risk analysis, and product and process technology. Successful candidates should establish and lead a strong research program. They will be expected to supervise Masters and Doctorate students and teach both undergraduate and postgraduate level courses. Lectureships have been established to promote the careers of younger scientists.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  1. A Professor must have:
    1. An earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant field from accredited and recognized university;
    2. At least three (3) years teaching experience as an Associate Professor or equivalent; and research experience
    3. A minimum of sixty (60) equivalent publication points since attaining Associate Professorship or equivalent, of which at least forty (40) should be from refereed scholarly journals;
    4. Supervised a minimum of five (5) postgraduate students to completion, at least two at doctoral level;
    5. Registered with the relevant professional body (where applicable); and
    6. Attracted research or development funds as an Associate Professor or equivalent.
  2. An Associate Professor must have:
    1. An earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant field from an accredited and recognized university;
    2. At least three (3) years teaching experience at the university as a Senior Lecturer; or Senior Researcher /Industry experience or equivalent;
    3. A minimum of forty eight (48) publication points as a Senior Lecturer or equivalent, of which at least thirty two (32) should be from refereed scholarly journals;
    4. Supervised a minimum of four (4) postgraduate students to completion, including at least one doctoral student;
    5. Attracted research or development funds as a Senior Lecturer /Senior Research Fellow; and
    6. Registered with the relevant professional body (where applicable).
  1. A Senior Lecturer /Senior Research Fellow must have:
    1. An earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification (or a Master’s degree qualification in special cases) in the relevant field from an accredited and recognized university;
    2. At least three (3) years of teaching experience at the university level as a Lecturer or six (6) years research/industry experience;
    3. A minimum of thirty two (32) publication points a Lecturer or equivalent, of which at least twenty four (24) should be from refereed scholarly journals;
    4. Supervised at least three (3) postgraduate students to completion as a Lecturer or equivalent; and
    5. Registered with the relevant professional body (where applicable).
  2. A Lecturer /Research Fellow must have:
    1. An earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant field from an accredited and recognized university; and be registered or registerable with the relevant professional body (where applicable).

OR

  1. A Masters degree in the relevant field from an accredited and recognized university (in special cases) with at least three (3) years teaching experience at university level or in research or in industry; and
  2. Those with a Masters degree should have registered for a PhD degree.
  3. Registered with the  relevant professional body (where applicable).

Introduction

The role of the information professional has continually been changing over the years and has progressively evolved into information management roles which have necessitated new skill requirements such as information search skills, research skills, IT skills, transferable and soft skills that are generic; and cut across disciplines including communication, management, leadership and   entrepreneurship. The programmes in the School of Information Science has been designed to address these challenges.

Introduction

The School of Business & Economics is one of the five Schools of Garissa University College. The school continues to attract a large number of students from Garissa and beyond because of the unique location of the college and due to the fact that the college is almost the only government institution offering degree programmes thereby benefitting from an expansive catchment area.

The school envisions churning graduates who are competent and dynamic to suit the current job market by offering courses that are tailored towards meeting the current job market demands. In order to achieve this, the school has incorporated the practical element in its programme by engaging students in industrial attachment through which they gain practical experience by working in the industry for close to three months.

The school has got two main programmes: Bachelor of Business Management and Bachelor of Arts in economics. The school also offers the following diploma and certificate courses: diploma in procurement and logistics management, diploma in project management, diploma in human resource management, diploma in business management, certificate in business management, certificate in procurement and logistics management, certificate in project monitoring and evaluation, certificate in project management, certificate in human resource management and certificate in supplies management.
