The first group of students admitted to Garissa University College in July started reporting to the institution. The students who were accompanied by their parents and guardians were upbeat and expressed confidence with the security measures that have been put in place by the government.

This is the first group of first years to report to the campus after it was indefinitely closed down following the  April 2nd in 2015 attack by Somali based Al-Shabaab militants killing 148 people most of them students.

The institution was re-opened January 2016 after the government introduces additional security measures including a police station.

A biometric security gadget that is able to capture finger prints and details of all those accessing the institution has been installed at the main entrance that is also manned 24 hours by armed security officers.
