The just elected Garissa University College Students Organization (GUSCO|) leadership was today sworn into office at a mini-ceremony conducted at the University’s boardroom.

The students swore allegiance to the code of conduct and promised to uphold its principles while pledging to be free of biases and serve the students with diligent.

The swearing of the new team was witnessed by the university Principal and his Deputy, Prof. Ahmed Osman Warfa and Prof. Irura Ng’ang’a respectively.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Warfa urged the new team to deliver positively on their new mandate adding they are the link between the students and the university management.

Speaking at the same venue, Prof. Ng’ang’a congratulated the new team urging them to articulate student’s welfare positively saying they are the eyes and ears of the students.

The ceremony was also witnessed by Dean of Students, Mr. Abdirahman Hamo, Ag. Registrar (ASA) Dr. Stephin Rotich, Prof. Julius Huho and Dr. Justus Gori

Yussuf Abdi is the new chairman of the student organization while vice-chair is Ararso Yussuf. The secretary-general is Abdullahi Hillow and will be deputise by Abdifatah Hassan. Farhiya Ali takes up the position of Finance and Investment. Security and Accommodation docket will be headed by Hassan Abdullahi while his colleague Bashi Kassim Farah is the man incharge of Sports. Ibrahim Abdulfatah is the new Director of Academic. Justin Mwangi is the man in charge of Entertainment while Mwangi Mark and Hawo Omar were elected unopposed for the positions of Catering and Health respectively. 

 

 

 

 

Garissa University students have conducted it’s elections for the academic year 2016/2017 in a peaceful, transparent and democratic manner. In the hotly contested elections, there were no incidents which were reported throughout the election period.

After three weeks of gruelling campaign by the aspirants, the students cast their votes, Saturday, 26, Nov, 2016.

The electoral body which conducted the elections praised the general conduct of the students during the campaign period. The new team have been told to use their leadership skills to promote cohesion and integration among students regardless of their faith, ethnic and cultural differences.  The new officials were also urged to balance between students’ leadership and academics.

The swearing- in ceremony for all elected officials will be on a date to be confirmed.

The University wishes to congratulate all the students’ fraternity for exercising their democratic right and demonstrating their maturity during and after the campaign.

Garissa University College (GUC) participated in the Africa Statistics day event organized by the County government of Garissa on 18th November 2016 at the Government Guest House, Garissa.

GUC was represented by the Deputy Principal in charge of Finance, Administration & Planning , Prof. Irura Ng’ang’a (Extreme right) who made a presentation titled: University role in research for enhanced, sustainable economic transformation for Garissa County and North Eastern region.

The theme of the day was Strengthening economic statistics for regional integration, structural transformation and sustainable development.

The event was aimed at raising public awareness about the importance of statistics in economic and social development.
